To day, effect of globalization is eroding our cultural roots at a faster pace ever seen. It has an adverse effect on the rural literature, culture and art, which are creative in nature. In such a conflicting state of affairs, rural culture provides a base to enlighten the community about the hoard of knowledge available in our own roots. There is an intense need before us to plan elaborately to preserve Folk knowledge and work towards its improvement.

Karnataka Janapada Parishath has formulated three-year plan and has the intention of executing the tasks so defined in three phases in the order of priority.

Details of three year action plan to sustain and develop Janapada

1. Transliteration of audio cassettes- Editing and Publication

2. Conversion of 500 audiocassettes into CDs and preserving them in archives.

3. Imparting training in Folk music.

4. Imparting training in Folk Art.

5. Imparting training in Folk theatre.

6. Shops to sell Folk artefacts.

7. Folk information centre.

8. Promoting Folk knowledge through lectures.

9. Janapada from college to college.

10. Compiling, Editing, Publishing of Folk literature.

11. Folk or rural games

12. Library of Folk literature

13. Preserving and training of tribal art

14. Folk laboratory

15. Folk entertainers

16. Folk workshop

17. Building a gallery of Folk artists

Total approximate expenditure of three year Janpada plan is Rs.1,57,00,000/-(One crore fifty seven lakhs only)

If we want to stop the onslaught of globalization on native culture, our village literature, culture, art and lifestyle should be rejuvenated. In this direction Parishath has envisaged this ambitious plan. Approximately Rs.1,57,00,000/- is required to execute this plan. In the coming three years this huge task has to be completed stage by stage.

 

Karnataka Janapada Parishath whose firm foundation was laid on 21 st March 1979 with the chief aim of promoting, preserving, propagating and documenting Folk traditions of Karnataka has successfully completed 27 years and created many milestones.

1. Recording of Folk music sung in various styles and tunes by authentic Folk musicians.

2. Establishing museums displaying Folk musical instruments, puppets, household articles, traditional jewelry and apparels, arms and weapons, artistic earthenware, life size statues depicting the styles of Yakshagana artists, masks, photographs, paintings and other Folk articles.

3. Video filming of the life of village folks, rural festivals and customs, dances, Yakshagana, puppet shows, 'sannata' and ' Krishna parijatha' dramas, sports. special articles and musical instruments.

4. Preparation of thousands of color transparencies on the above mentioned subjects.

5. Publishing of journal "Janapada Jagattu' dedicated to study, research, discussion, review and analysis of Karnataka Folklore.

6. A library which helps for the study and research of Janapada

7. Holding seminars and Janapada Kalamelas

8. Encouraging folk artists by way of felicitations and presentation of purse

9. Building Sobane Chikkamma studio fully equipped with necessary equipments for audio recording, video filming, and preparation of slides and screening of films.

10. Production and sale of audio cassettes or discs of folk music rendered by new artists but instrumental music composed suitable to the lyrics, voice, style and tunes of original singers

11. Starting of Folk research center and Folk University with the collaboration of Bangalore University .

12. Telecast of 108 episodes of Sirigandha serial

13. Publishing Folk literary works

14. Training courses in Folk dance forms

15. Training courses in Folk music

16. Training courses in Mudalapaya Yakshagana art

17. Presenting awards to more than 300 folk artists

18. Celebration of annual kite festival, Dasara festival, Lokotsava on permanent basis

19. Pinnacle of all these achievements is the creation of Janapada Loka in a sprawling 15 acre land near Ramanagar on Mysore-Bangalore highway which is the embodiment of folk culture

20 . Designing and construction of Janapada Siribhuvana and Nanjaraj Siriranga open air theatre at Bangalore

This way, Parishath is engaged in various activities and prospering with many achievements to its credit.
